1. What type of alternator is this on-board battery charger compatible with?

This charger is compatible with both traditional and smart alternators. However, since the traditional alternator provides a fixed voltage when charging, while the smart alternator adjusts the voltage according to the operating conditions, it is necessary to connect the charger to the smart alternator via the vehicle's ignition port using the IGN cable provided in the pack.

2. What happens when the service battery is fully charged?

This Renogy DC-DC MPPT charger incorporates a Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) that keeps the service battery in trickle charge. It also trickle charges the starter battery via the solar panels. The VSR ensures reliable isolation between the starter and service batteries to avoid interference during charging.

3. How to set battery type without display screen?

To change the battery type, press the push button located on the PV+ and ALT+ side of the DC-DC charger. Continue pressing and the LED will display different colors, each corresponding to a specific battery type. See page 15 of the manual for details of the LED codes according to the battery type.
